I offer Singing Sessions at the Carnon Downs Drop-In, usually on the first Thursday of every other month. Singing starts 11.00 – 11.15 and is followed by a light sandwich lunch. Contact Rowena 01326 376710 or Wendy 01872 862745 about the Group meetings. See my own contact details below..
The Singing Sessions I lead start with a gentle warm-up and some fun vocal exercises, followed by a variety of songs, many familiar with a few new ones too; I teach new songs using call and response, so everything is taught by ear, making it accessible for everyone. We also use some actions and instruments to make the sessions interesting and fun, so you both enjoy and feel uplifted by the singing, which is well known to improve mood and the ‘feel good’ chemicals in the brain. Singing can also help to improve the depth of your breathing, your posture and the strength of your voice so my sessions are planned with this in mind at the same time as offering a fun sociable activity for your enjoyment.
I offer several different singing sessions; Songs from Cornwall, Songs from around the World (a musical journey to different countries), Songs from the World Wars, as well as Christmas Songs and Carols, and a whole repertoire of other songs I have collected over many years.
I originally trained as a physiotherapist, so am experienced in working with both individuals and groups and encouraging people to achieve their best. I started leading singing with children and young adults as well as setting up an adult singing group, before moving into ‘Singing for Health’ for people with Parkinson’s and Memory Loss/Dementia; I have completed both a Singing Leadership training course and the recognised ‘Sing to Beat Parkinson’s’ Training.
I am available to lead Singing Sessions for Parkinson’s Groups, Memory Cafes, Community Groups, Care Homes or any other Group who would like to Sing! Please contact me on 07421 765812.
